How To Grow Shrooms At Home With a Grow Kit

Copy of Untitled 66

Growing mushrooms at home is a fun and easy way to get your fix of these delicious fungi. With a grow kit, all you need is some basic supplies and a little bit of space, and you can be on your way to harvesting your shrooms. Here’s everything you need to know about growing mushrooms at home with a grow kit.

Why Grow Your Own Shrooms?

Magic mushrooms can be a wonderful and nutritious experience, but they can also be expensive. Growing your own is a great alternative if you love eating magic mushrooms but hate the price tag. Whether you grow for personal use or share with friends, it’s much cheaper to buy the supplies once and spend your money on shrooms whenever you feel like having an adventure.

Tending to your fungi for weeks might also influence your trip positively. There is nothing that makes a fungal experience more enjoyable than knowing you watched your little guys grow from spores to delicious treats.

What Do I Need To Get Started?

A grow kit from MMO makes the process straightforward so you can focus on having fun rather than getting bogged down with complicated instructions or requirements.

All you need to do is follow the instructions for your grow kit, and voila! In a matter of days, you will have your first flush of magic mushrooms.

Our Mushroom Grow Kit Includes:

One Mushroom Liquid Culture Syringe

The syringe is the most important part of your kit. Inside the syringe, you will find a small amount of magic mushroom mycelium capable of starting a new grow. In the wild, this mycelium infects an existing mushroom growing.

When you inject some into a fresh substrate, it will start to propagate and spread throughout your jar.

350 grams of MYCO-PRO Mushroom Spawn Medium

A medium, or substrate, is the nutrient-rich material upon which the magic mushroom mycelium feeds. Here is your spawn medium, which is another part of your kit that won’t require additional ingredients. You can even re-use this medium to start up a couple of grows!

1 kg of MYCO-PRO Mushroom Fruiting Medium

This is the material in which your mushrooms will grow. It’s essentially just a mixture of different organic components such as straw and coco husks, which provide your fungi with the perfect environment to thrive.

1x Mister Spray Bottle

For each grow, you will need to mist down your substrate material various times, depending on the growth stage. Fungi thrive in humid environments, but if the air is too damp, you may experience a lot of water droplets forming on your mushrooms.

The perfect humidity level varies from grow to grow and is typically around 80% during colonization and fruiting. You’ll have to keep an eye on your substrate during these stages to determine if more or less water is needed.

The Mister Spray Bottle included with your grow kit has markings on the side so you can see how much liquid you are applying at a time.

1 Lysol Disinfectant Spray

You will need to disinfect your grow area before starting your first cycle. This is achieved by soaking down all of the surfaces you’ll be working with Lysol, allowing it to air dry, and then spraying down again with fresh Lysol once more.

50 grams of Hi-loft Polyfil

Polyfill is the material we use to top off our grow kits. The polyfill helps to keep substrate humidity high and provides additional support for your mushrooms as they grow. You’ll only need a small handful of this material for each to grow.

5 Surgical Facemasks and 5 Nitrile Gloves

Growing mushrooms is very easy, even much easier than growing marijuana. The only thing that can really ruin a batch of mushrooms is contamination. Fungi are very sensitive to contamination and can ruin an entire grow.

One of the easiest ways to contaminate your crop is through breathing in the spores themselves. Using surgical masks and gloves during each step of your process will help minimize this from happening.

How Long Does It Take To Grow Mushrooms?

Depending on the strain and how well suited your substrate is for growing, you should see your first flush (or harvest) in about 10 to 14 days after inoculation.

During this time, it’s important that you keep your grow area clean and disinfected with Lysol. This will prevent contaminants from colonizing and destroying what you’ve worked so hard for.

With proper care and diligence, your second flush will typically follow about a week or so after this time.

How To Grow Magic Mushrooms?

Your grow kit order will include an instruction manual that details each step for producing your first crop of mushrooms. Read it to find out more about the steps below:

  • Disinfecting
  • Breaking up the substrate
  • Inoculating
  • Drying your crop
  • Harvesting!

Our guide goes through each step in detail using photos. If you are still unsure about anything, feel free to contact us here at MMO, and we will be happy to help out!

How Many Mushrooms Will I Get From a Grow Kit?

It’s difficult to determine how many mushrooms flush you’ll receive from each kit because it depends heavily on the type of grow kit and strain, as well as your humidity levels. You can expect around 2-to-4 flushes per kit, though!

Each flush will provide you with a considerable amount of mushrooms, which you can then dry or consume fresh.spore syringe mushroom grow kit
